David Le Batard “Lebo”
Cuban-American storyteller blending street influence, music, symbolism, and saturated color
About the Artist
David “Lebo” Le Batard was a Cuban-American artist whose work blended storytelling, music, street influence, symbolism, and saturated color into a highly recognizable contemporary style. Born in New York in 1972 to Cuban immigrant parents and raised in South Florida, Lebo became one of Miami’s most recognizable artistic voices across painting, murals, sculpture, live art, and design. He described his style as “Postmodern Cartoon Expressionism,” a label that captures both its playfulness and its deeper cultural layering.
Lebo’s work carries a distinct sense of movement and rhythm, often drawing on Cuban heritage, music, and popular culture while still feeling deeply personal. That mix gave his art unusual crossover strength: his pieces could feel lively and accessible at first glance, yet still reveal symbolism and emotional nuance over time. Collectors are often drawn to his work because it feels rooted in place, voice, and identity rather than trend alone.
On Kerja Gallery, works tied to Lebo include “Patience” (Original Painting) and “This Holy Moment,” helping show both the strong visual immediacy that made him widely recognizable and the more personal, expressive undercurrent that gave his work staying power.
