Slava Ilyayev
Israeli palette knife painter celebrated for rich texture, luminous color, and atmospheric depth
About the Artist
Slava Ilyayev is an Israeli artist originally from Baku, Azerbaijan, best known for richly textured paintings created with a palette knife. Born in 1970, he studied art first in Baku and later at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv after immigrating to Israel. His work often carries clear ties to Post-Impressionism through dense pigment, luminous color, and an emphasis on atmosphere over strict realism.
What makes Ilyayev’s work especially compelling is its physicality. The raised paint, layered surface, and strong color relationships give his paintings a tactile quality that reproductions rarely capture fully. Collectors who value painterly texture and emotional warmth often respond strongly to his landscapes and scenic works because they feel both vivid and immersive.
Kerja Gallery currently shows “Somewhere in Time,” “Shimmering Waters,” and “Ruby Twilight,” titles that align closely with the atmospheric, color-driven qualities that define Ilyayev’s work and make him a natural fit for interiors that benefit from warmth, richness, and painterly depth.
