Mark Kostabi is an American artist born in Los Angeles in 1960, known for his paintings featuring faceless figures in surreal, often colorful settings that explore themes of love, technology, and modern anxiety. A prominent figure in the 1980s East Village art scene, he gained fame for his distinctive style and provocative self-promotion, which included cultivating a media persona and establishing Kostabi World, a studio where assistants help produce his work. His art is in major museum collections worldwide and has been featured on album covers, including Guns N’ Roses’s Use Your Illusion.
